She went on to serve a three-year anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Here, she later finished an orthopedic and gynecologic pathology fellowship, a surgical pathology frozen sections fellowship (at Highlands Hospital), and a molecular genetics and pathology fellowship.

She also frequently presented lectures and case studies at the university medical conferences, where she won an award for the most outstanding presenter in a clinical pathology lecture. Since completing her academic training, she has served as a Staff Pathologist at Cunningham Pathology, where she has worked for over a decade.
